前言

「擂台只係一個名，要打邊度都係擂台！」「唔打就唔會輸；要打就一定要贏！」 源自電影「打擂台」的熱血對白，喚醒了不少男兒心中的熱血。2010年，香港電影「打擂台」大放光芒，除了贏得各界一致好評，更於2010香港電影頒獎禮及各個國際電影頒獎禮上勇奪多項獎項，絕對是近年香港電影的水準之作。 得到隊員TK9132(BBC)的幫助，我們有幸訪問「打擂台」的幕後功臣—導演兼編劇郭子健先生 Mr. Derek Kwok，了解郭子健導演的電影生涯及其創作與星球大戰的微妙關係。(以下簡稱郭子健導演為Derek)

The inspiring lines above have aroused the manliness passion at the bottom of young men’s heart. In 2010, Gallants distinguished itself from other Hong Kong movies, getting praised by all walks of life and winning multiple awards in the presentation ceremonies of 2010 HKFA and various international film awards. With the help of our team member TK9132(BBC)’s help, we got the opportunity to interview Mr. Derek Kwok, director and scriptwriter of Gallants.

郭子健導演 與STARWARS

Derek 指自己只稱得上為半個星球大戰粉絲，第一次於免費電視觀看星球大戰時，由於偏愛黑色，他只對感覺黑沉沉的黑武士(Darth Vader)留有印象，直至家人買了一些星球大戰的玩具，才令他開始對整個系列產生興趣，想了解整個故事的來龍去脈。於是他搜索星球大戰的錄影帶(當時最普及的方式)觀看了經典三部曲系列 (Episode 4-6)，認真地窺探星球大戰的世界之餘，亦建立了他對故事完整性的初步概念。

Mr. Derek Kwok and STARWARS

Derek identified himself as only “half a fan” of STARWARS. He only remembered the character Darth Vader after seeing the film for the first time, for he had a passion for the color of dark. However some toys of STARWARS bought by his family interested him and he felt like to know the whole story of the film. So he bought all videotapes of STARWARS, which was the most popular way to see the films at that time, and watched every one of them. He explored the world of STARWARS seriously and got the preliminary concept of integrity of a movie.

Derek 說經典第一集(Episode 4 - A New Hope)是他最喜愛的一集，除了是真正第一集之外，更充滿了日本導演黑澤明先生作品「武士勤王記」的味道；第二最愛為前傳第三集黑帝君臨(Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith)，男主角Anakin Skywalker 步入原力黑暗面的一段，劇情充斥人生的黑暗及人性的墮落，令他印象深刻。
Episode 4 - A New Hope is his most favorite. It’s not only the real first of the STARWARS series but reminded me of Akira Kurosawa’s The Hidden Fortress. His second most favorite is Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith. He was impressed by the protagonist Anakin Skywalker who was misled by the dark side of The Force.

跟劇情相比，Derek 更喜愛戲內的角色設定、武器設定及故事背後的冒險精神，他尤其喜愛穿著盔甲的角色，如黑武士、白兵；戲內有力量的人，他亦特別有印象，例如EP4中，外表平凡但有強大力量的老人Obi-Wan Kenobi 遇上小伙子Luke Skywalker，Obi-Wan告訴Luke︰「你是被選中的，身上懷有很大的能力。」 然後教導及引領他進入原力世界；故事中，主角總會遇上不少難關，但他們都會相信自己的能力，將問題迎刃而解。
He prefers the characters, weapons and spirit of adventure to the story of STARWARS. He loves characters wearing armor, such as Darth Vader , Stromtrooper .He was deeply impressed by the characters with power, like EP4. Obi-Wan Kenobi, an old man with great power, tells Luck, “You are the chosen one with the great power.” Then he taught him and led him to the world of The Force. The heroes believed in themselves and always overcame various difficulties.

年少時，Derek 幻想自己可以如Luke Skywalker般遇上自己的啟蒙老師Obi-Wan Kenobi，引領出自己的隱藏能力，展開一段人生旅程；現在貴為大導演，他希望可以把這種相信自己能力及冒險精神於作品中展現人前，將精神延續下去。
When he was a young man, Derek dreamed of running into an inspiring mentor who would help bring his potential into full play, just Luke Skywalker encountering Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now as a famous director, he hopes he can carry forward the spirit of believing in oneself and adventure.

談起電影路，Derek 說日本導演黑澤明先生的作品及星球大戰系列同樣對他有著不少影響，他認為前者的電影風格對他的影響更甚；話雖如此，在星球大戰文化下成長的他，十分期待著編導一部香港出產的科幻電影，盔甲人物及冒險旅程是必定的情節，他期望可以用零碎的情節帶出一個宏大的世界觀及衍生出其他故事。
Derek said both Akira Kurosawa’s movies and STARWARS series had significant impact on his own works, but the former obviously played a more important role. However, he admitted that he was always looking forward to producing a science-fiction movie which would certainly include characters wearing helmet and stories of adventure.

他認為不少荷里活電影都有一個通病，就是把故事說得太複雜，其中一項他最欣賞星球大戰是它的電影故事表現方式，它簡單地描繪出一個精彩的冒險故事，劇情富張力、高潮不斷，配合豐富的人物設定及宏大的世界觀，令觀眾可以全情投入到故事的科幻世界中。此外，雖然電影設定上，包括人物及環境等均有詳盡的資料，但故事中不會把它們一一詳述，只會輕輕帶過，令觀察能輕易理解，如遇上有興趣的人則可以慢慢追溯電影資料集，詳細了解其設定的由來及故事的定位。
Derek said the plots of many Hollywood movies were too complicated for viewers. The simplicity of the story of STARWARS is a factor that makes him like the series. The whole story of the movie is exciting and simple, making viewers focus on the imaginary world presented by the film. Besides, the movie would never bother detailing the information about the background, characters, environment, etc. However the detailed information of the movie is available to anyone who feels like to know more.

在電影製作上，他認為理解題材及方向是十分重要的一環，在還沒有充份理解及準備之前，不能草率地開始製作，否則作品只會徒具虛形，失去了題材原有的味道；製作時間長並非一個考慮點，能否達至理想效果才是重點，他以一些荷里活電影為例，製作之認真並不吝嗇其製作時間，如製作一個人物模型可能已花上一年時間。在他的作品中，他表示曾參考星球大戰的人物及劇情，至於是哪一部作品，他希望留待大家發掘，先賣個關子。
In terms of producing movies, he thinks understanding of the theme is very important. One shall not start producing a movie before obtaining a thorough understanding and getting well prepared, otherwise he/she can never present a film with soul. He thinks we shall focus on making quality film, even that means we have to extend the production period. Some characters and plots of STARWARS are reflected in some of his works. Which one? You guess.

Postscript

訪問期間，Derek 不時把玩1/6活動人偶，除了轉換不同角色，他還為他們換上不同服裝，他回憶以往很喜歡幫人偶的頭上色，在互聯網上也薄有名氣，後來因為工作太忙而無暇上色。當談及有關人偶的話題，Derek 便雀躍不已地分享其心得，如上色、玩樂點滴等等。
During the interview, Derek played with the 1/6 actionfigure every now and then, which reminded him of the time when he became famous on the internet for coloring heads of the 1/6 actionfigure. Now he is too busy to do that. When we started to talk about the 1/6 actionfigure, he was very happy to share with us his experiences with the cool toys.
